Itinerary:

Day 1
International flights from New Zealand to Tahiti. On arrival to Papeete International Airport you will be met by a representative who will transfer you to your hotel.

Day 2
Morning at language school. 3 hours of classes.

This afternoon you will have a raw fish demonstration then the rest of the afternoon on the beach. One of French Polynesia’s most famous dishes is ‘Poisson Cru’. It consists of tuna marinated in lime juice and mixed with a delicious blend of diced vegetables and coconut milk.
At the end of the afternoon, you will meet your homestay families whom you will be staying with for the next 7 nights.

Day 3
Morning at language school. 3 hours of classes.

This afternoon you will visit the Marae Arahurahu and the Museum of Tahiti and her Islands.

This includes a Polynesian dance introduction. The Marae was used by Polynesians for ceremonial gatherings and where the gods were worshipped with offerings of food. Marae Arahurahu, ahu is the largest ceremonial complex in Tahiti. It belonged to the local king (arii) and served as a central gathering place of the whole small “nation” of this valley. The Museum of Tahiti and Her Islands (“Musée de Tahiti et des Îles”) is dedicated to educating visitors about this beautiful archipelago. The museum is divided into four distinct sections: the first focuses on geography and natural history, the second on pre-European culture, the third on the effects of colonization, and the fourth on natural wonders.

Day 4
Morning at language school. 3 hours of classes.

This afternoon you will have a Tahitian dugout canoe experience. A dugout canoe is a boat made from a hollowed tree trunk and are the oldest boats archaeologists have found, dating back about 8,000 years to the Neolithic Stone Age. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to navigate these traditional Tahitian canoes.

Day 5
Morning at language school. 3 hours of classes.

Visit the Black Pearl Museum then shop in Papeete. The Museum provides a comprehensive guide to the history and legends of pearls, crossing different cultures and civilizations.

Visitors to the museum learn how the pearls are grafted and can see a collection of the world’s most beautiful cultured gems. A highlight of the collection is the largest round Tahitian cultured pearl in existence.

Days 6 and 7
Today you will spend the day with your homestay families

Day 8
Morning at language school. 3 hours of classes.

A midday departure from the Port in Papeete to Moorea. Moorea is a half-hour ferry trip.
This afternoon you will learn how to do Polynesian weaving. Polynesian handcrafters have made an art of weaving Tahitian ‘lauhala’. Baskets, mats, bracelets, fans, and boxes are just a few of the many items made by today’s crafters.

Day 9
Today you will enjoy a lagoon tour which includes a visit to the 2 bays, shark and stingray feeding, and a traditional Tahitian meal for lunch.

At the end of the day, you will transfer to the port to take the ferry to Papeete. On arrival, you will be collected by your homestay hosts.

Day 10
Return to NZ. Transfer by host families to the airport to meet your flight to New Zealand.
